Pinhoe Lightning 7 v 1 Ottery St Mary
Goals: Stuart Tait 3, Isaac Furness 2,
Bradley Palmer 1,
Liam Amatruda 1
Having created 3 good chances in the first 3 minutes it was a relief to see Liam Amatruda net within 5 minutes of kick off. Bradley Palmer soon made it 2 and the Pins were looking comfortable but they allowed the visitors back into the game with an opportunist strike from a poor clearance. Isaac Furness grabbed number 3 just before half time. The Pins set about the visitors in the second half taking control and scoring 4. with Stuart Tait getting a neat hat trick, and Isaac F getting his second. The work rate was good, particularly in midfield, many chances were created and some good goals well taken. Things are looking better but we can't afford to be complacent.

Kentisbeare 2 v 7 Pinhoe Lightning
Goals: Liam Amatruda 3,
Bradley Palmer 3.
Jimmy Hinds 1
Lightnings visit to the Rectory saw a return to winning form for the Pins. Told to start at 100mph they quickly responded and were 4-1 up at half time with Liam Amatruda grabbing a hat trick and skipper Jimmy H' scoring one of his trade mark scorchers. More of the same in the second half saw Brad Palmer net 3 times for a comfortable win - the diffrence this week was the way the ball moved around and the amount of effort shown by all on the pitch. Several chances though still went begging and this is an area we need to tighten up on however the way the lads played today it will be hard to justify any changes for the next game.

Cup Match
1st round of The Cup:
In a replay of last years first round Lightning met Heavitree Youth at Exeter Arena. The visitors were busy and always looked dangerous on the break, so it calmed home nerves when Brad Palmer opended the scoring with a well taken strike. However the Pins squandered several good chances before Dan Parker settled the home crowd with his first goal when reacted first to a superb Isaac Furness corner to bring the Pins in at half time 2-0 up. There was a lot more purppose about the team in the second half and when Isaac Furness slammed in a poor clearance to start his hat-trick it fired the team up. Brad Palmer got his second with a wickedly curling corner which beat everyone and ended up in the net. Max Beecroft got on the scoresheet against his old team with a cheeky effort and Jimmy Hinds rounded off the tally. It was an improving performance, and especially so because we kept a clean sheet. Tyler Mitchell looked confident in goal and the back four coped well with the opposition threat. Other good performances from Brad Palmer, Jimmy Hinds and Harry Choules. Keep this going.

Pinhoe Lightning 3 v 5 Buckland Athletic
Goals: Bradley Palmer 1, Harry Choules 2
Despite losing Stuart Tait early in the second half following a sending off, the Pins played some of their most spirited football of the season. Lightning took the lead in the first 10 minutes through Brad Palmer, only to loose it minutes later following a poor attempt to clear the ball. Buckland then increased their lead before Harry Choules pounced onto a ball spilled by the keeper trying to hold a Jimmy Hinds free kick. Palmer & Amatruda worked well up front causing all sorts of problems - whilst Lee johnson was pick of a very good back four. Jimmy Hinds and Luke England put in a terrific amount of running in midfield - with Isaac Furness playing a lot better than in recent weeks, all factors that contributed to the improved performance.
Harry got the Pins 3rd and his second from a well taken corner but in the end the visitors 5 goals proved too much of a lead for the boys to claw back. It was a thrilling game and this is more like it lads, remember if you play like a team it can be a 12th man on the pitch for you.

Pinhoe Lightning 1 v 2 Ipplepen
Goals: Stuart Tait
Having picked themselves up from the last two weeks and got back to playing some real good football, it was a very cruel blow to lose this game in the last minute - especially having lead for 35 minutes when Stuart Tait cooly slotted home following a clever passing move. However things do look better for the boys as Tyler Mitchell looked good between the sticks, Jimmy Hinds and Luke England got back to some of their old form in midfield. Mitchell Brooks had a confident and classy game in the defence and There was great running up front from Liam and Brad with the two wide men supplying good crosses. Just two moments where we went to sleep cost us all 3 points. Well done - remember play to the whistle - but keep up the progress lads.

Crediton Saints 4 v 2 Pinhoe Lightning
Goals: Stuart Tait, Liam Armtruda
Another poor performance saw Lightning crash to their first defeat of the season. They never seemed able to settle and get their passing game going, but credit to the home side who never allowed the Pins to get into their rhythm at all.
Once again we were far too charitable in front of goal, and could've won this one 6-3 - we must be more ruthless in the one on ones with the keeper (by rights he should always lose out) but we made him look good (and he was subsequently given man of the match).
Brighter moments came from a promising start by Mitch Brooks- and the sterling, reliable performance put in by Ollie Thomas. We will need to do better, and can do better, but have given away 5 points in the last 2 games. Come on lads you can do better ! you are better !

Pinhoe Lightning 1 v 1 Pinhoe Spartans
Goals: Stuart Tait
Lightning were lucky to scrape a point from this game with the visitors feeling robbed after taking the lead when the Pins seemed unable and unwilling to put the ball in their opponents net.
Lightning created several good chances in the first half but failed to take them, this would've settled some nerves and allowed them to get into their stride. Credit to Alphington who had a game plan and stuck to it, they were always in the lightning lads faces - not allowing them time to dwell on the ball and contesting every 50-50.
The positives are we only let in 1 which keeps our defensive record looking good, we were able to come back after going behind and we remain unbeaten. Bright moments from James Sharman tidying up well at the back and from Oliver Thomas who deserved his man of the match award for great tackling.
come on lads you know you can play better - pick it up next week.

Brixington Blues 1 v 4 Pinhoe Lightning
Goals: Luke England 1, Bradley Palmer 2, Liam Amatruda 1
Lightning continue their positive start to the new season with a win away to Brixington. Pinhoe scored first through Luke England only to go in at half time 1-1. However they came out for the second half determined to do well and Bradley Palmer settled the Pins nerves with two fine goals within minutes of each other. The game was over when Liam Amatruda scored the fourth with a determined burst into the box.

Crediton Youth 1 v 8 Pinhoe Lightning
Goals: Jimmy Hinds 3, Harry Choules 2, Bradley Palmer 1 (pen) Isaac Furness 1, Max Beecroft 1
The scoreline does not tell the whole story of this match, Crediton were missing several strong players and also lost a key man on the day to injury. However they played with spirit and scored first from a good breakaway. Lightning struggled to find rhythm and the back of the opponents net, despite dominating play they were unable to convert their many chances until the second half when through better passing and disciplined play they created the chances necessary to open up the tight Crediton defence.

Broadclyst 1 v 3 Pinhoe Lightning
Goals: Bradley Palmer 1, Jimmy Hinds 1, Isaac Furness 1
Lightning ran out winners in this gritty opener to the 2008-2009 season. Broadclyst are always tough opposition at home and they never allowed the visitors to settle. They fought for every ball and took the game to Pinhoe. Bradley Palmer scored the first goal to bring the visitors in 1 up at half time. Lightning started brightly in the second half and a good move down the left wing saw a great ball set up for Jimmy Hinds who made no mistake from outside the box. Then Isaac Furness beat his man outside the box was on his way towards goal when the ref' adjudged the tackle on him worthy of a penalty, he got up and put it away neatly. Broadclyst rallied for a while with a well taken volley to get 1 back, however it came too late.
